[BB] Please Review Test Verson of Your Course Site (round 2)

Blackboard Users,

We greatly appreciate all the help and feedback we have received as we get ready to upgrade the Blackboard system.

We have upgraded our temporary test system to Blackboard 7.2, and we need to make sure that the upgrade didn’t affect the course content that we asked you to verify last week. “Real” Blackboard has still not been touched or changed in any way.

Review Upgraded Temporary Test Server Data:

R      Here is the link to the test server: http://umiamitemp.blackboard.com
Login info is the same as it is for the “real” UM Blackboard.

R      Take a look at the temporary test server and verify that our “dress rehearsal” upgrade did not compromise your course content (as it looked on May 14th).

R      If something looks wrong, please let me know right away. If it looks like it did last week, then you don’t have to do anything.

R      REMINDER: The content on the temporary server is only current as of May 14th.

R      Because this is a test system, you can play around with it if you want, but remember that your changes will NOT be saved. This system will be taken down next Monday (June 5th), and your edits to the test system will not be saved.

We have until the end of the day on Monday, June 5th to verify that everything looks OK. If it does, we will proceed with our proposed schedule to upgrade the “real” Blackboard system between June 26th and July 5th. More information about the upgrade schedule will be coming soon.

Thank you again,

Blackboard Users,

Thank you for reviewing your course content. We are now confident that our test server reflects a reasonable reproduction of our Blackboard data (as it looked on May 14th). We are, therefore, ready to perform our “dress rehearsal” upgrade on the test server.

The test server will be shut down this evening around 7pm so that the folks at Blackboard can spend the next several days upgrading it to system 7.2.

When the test upgrade finishes next week, we will ask you to review your course content again to make sure that the upgrade process didn’t compromise anything. A few things may look a little bit different, but your course content should remain intact.

Thank you for your help and patience with the upgrade process.

Until next week,

Jennifer

Blackboard Users,

We need you to quickly review your course content on our test server.

In preparation for the upgrade to Blackboard system 7.2 this summer we are going to do a “dress rehearsal” upgrade on a test server to ensure that the “real” upgrade process will run smoothly. The real upgrade is scheduled to occur between June 26th and July 5th.

We need your help:

  1. To be sure that the folks at Blackboard copied our data correctly, could you please look at the test server and verify that your course looks OK based on the content it had as of Monday, May 14th when it was copied. No updates made after May 14th will be reflected here: https://umiamitemp.blackboard.com (login info is the same as it is for the “real” UM Blackboard)

§                                 Make sure your courses were copied.

§                                 Course documents and assignments should be accessible (check at least a few)

§                                 Buttons and settings should be the same.

§                                 Etc…

  1. If you see anything wrong, please let us know right away. If it all looks good, you don’t need to do anything.

After we complete the “dress rehearsal” upgrade to system 7.2 (May 31st), we will ask you to check the test server again to be sure that the upgrade hasn’t affected your course content (the same course content you are verifying now). This will also give you a sneak peak at the new Blackboard system 7.2.

Thank you.

[BB] Unscheduled Downtime 2am-5am

Blackboard users,

In preparation for this summer's upgrade, Blackboard needs to shut down the University of Miami's production server between 2:00am and 5:00am Tuesday (5/15) morning.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you, and that we were not able to provide more warning about the shutdown.

Jennifer
