[BB] Using the Visual Text Box Editor with IE7

There is a problem using IE7 with Blackboard. Sometimes you go to enter something into a text box and the box does not appear. The solution I recommended in the past was to turn off the Visual Text Box Editor. A new (better?) solution is available. You can install a program from Microsoft that will launch IE7 in a special way, so that it acts like IE6, and web sites that don't work under IE7 will now work. When you are done you close that browser and open a regular IE7 browser to do your other work.

You can find the program at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9517DB9C-3C0D-47FE-BD04-FAD82A9AAC9F&displaylang=en (all one line) or search for "User Agent String Utility Version 2" on Google.

[BB] Put a banner on your course site

Blackboard list members,

If you have an hour free over break, some of you might want to go out to your Blackboard course site and put a “Banner” on it to make it look different from all the other sites on Blackboard. I have created two short videos, one shows how to create a banner and one shows how to upload a banner. You can find the videos by going to Blackboard, clicking on the “Support” tab, and then clicking on the “Instructor Training Videos” link. You can also go to http://snipurl.com/bbstart and click on the “Instructor Training Videos” link. The new banners are at the bottom of the list of “Using Blackboard” videos.

Have a great break.

[BB] Bb Intro Training, Friday at 2:30 PM

Blackboard listserv members,
I have a training session scheduled for the second Friday of each month for instructors who are just getting started using Blackboard. I failed to announce the one for this Friday, but it is still scheduled. If you know of anyone that would like a short, hands-on introduction to the Blackboard system, please have them go to http://www.miami.edu/iac and click on the "Lunch and Learn Series" menu item in order to register for this training.
This session is for BEGINNERS. If you have used Blackboard at all, this will be too basic for you. If you want to find out what Blackboard is, and how to upload documents to it, this is at your level. We will be setting up more advanced and specialized training in the future.

Would you like a brief introduction to the Blackboard system so that you can start using it to enhance the courses that you teach or support the groups that you lead? During this 50 minute hands-on session you will create an announcement, upload a syllabus and a PowerPoint slide show, learn how to see who is in your site, and send an e-mail message to everyone in your site. No previous experience with Blackboard is required.

Registration is limited and required.
